Ky Shotgun Laws
There are several type of Class 3 items that are restricted by the National Firearms Act.
Possession laws are relatively relaxed in 2020 compared to Kentucky marijuana laws of the past. Having less than eight ounces is a misdemeanor with a 45-day jail sentence and a $250 fine. Possession of over eight ounces is considered “possession with intent to sell” and the accused faces the same penalties as trafficking the drug. Contrast to those tasked with crafting the state’s gun laws. When it comes to guns rights in Kentucky, there is no compromise. Recognized permittees: Kentucky’s State Police issue licenses to carry concealed firearms, or other deadly weapons, through the sheriff of an applicant’s home county for five-year terms.
Each state can impose additional restrictions on the sale, purchase, and transfer of class 3 firearms in addition to the compliance that is required with the national Firearms Act.
- Been granted relief by the United States Secretary of the Treasury pursuant to the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended. The law applies to any youthful offender convicted of a felony offense under Kentucky law. Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is a Class D felony unless the firearm is a handgun, and then it’s a Class C felony.
- A person convicted of a felony is prohibited from possessing or hunting with a firearm in Kentucky. Breech and muzzle-loading rifles, shotguns and handguns are all considered firearms. The prohibition on handguns applies to those convicted after Jan. The prohibition on other firearms applies to those convicted after July 15, 1994.

Machine Guns Silencers Any Other Weapon (AOW)
Destructive Devices (DD)
Short Barreled Shotguns (SBS)
Short Barreled Rifles (SBR)
In Kentucky you cannot own the following NFA restricted items.
